Itinerary
8.00am: We will meet a Perth airport to collect our bus and driver before heading to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse to begin our walk
The first day on the Cape to Cape Track begins at the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. Before heading off, make sure you visit the lighthouse for views out towards the track and impressive coastline and where we will get our first compulsory team photo here!
Follow the signs and head south towards the vibrant Sugarloaf Rock.
Embrace the thrilling coastal path as it leads you all the way into Yallingup, which means “place of love” in the local Wardandi language. Sugarloaf Rock is one of the region’s most spectacular coastal landforms and offers a unique environment—a perfect spot for cool photo op!
The beach here is stunning and ideal for a refreshing swim after a day packed with adventure. Much of the trail is wide and well-marked, though the sand can feel firm underfoot during beach walks. For an extra burst of excitement, dive into Ngilgi Cave nearby, where a semi-guided tour reveals breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites.
Days two and three provide us with the opportunity to delve into every corner of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge as we traverse the cliff line and beach.
Today’s hike is quite extensive, so be sure to refuel at the Yallingup General Store. This is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Cape to Cape journey, where you will witness a stunning array of landscapes. Along the way, you willencounter a coastal rock pool affectionately referred to as *The Aquarium*, as well as the impressive Canal Rocks, Injidup Natural Spa, Quininup Falls, and the vibrant wildflowers surrounding Moses Rock.
Additionally, today’s route includes some of the finest wineries in the region, and we may stop for lunch at one, depending on our pace.
We will conclude the day’s hike at Moses Rock, a favoured surf spot adorned with rocky outcrops and tidal pools, where we hope to catch a glimpse of whales breaching from this magnificent viewpoint.
Explore Dramatic Coastlines and Tidal Pools as we experience the breathtaking scenery along this part of the Cape to Cape Track. This segment takes you past the magnificent Wilyabrup Cliffs. As we walk along the ridge, we may encounter knee-high heath, bursting with vibrant wildflowers, while the delightful scents of lavender and basil fill the air.
Our journey will lead us through Gracetown, where you can stop by Gracie’s General Store to pick up any essentials for the days of walking ahead.
A short segment of the trail departs from the peppermint and karri trees, returning to the coast to relish Kilcarnup Beach before crossing the Margaret River to reach the town of Prevelly.
As you leave Ellensbrook behind, the path begins to ascend a vehicle track flanked by marri and jarrah forests, showcasing a stunning variety of wildflowers and orchids.
Since this is a shorter day, we recommend taking a dip in the waves or at the mouth of Margaret River. Spend some time discovering the heritage site of Ellensbrook Homestead or enjoy a leisurely afternoon by the beach.
Rest Day to explore Margaret River
Aday to relax at our beautiful accommodation or perhaps book a tours that takes your through the regions most beautiful wineries.
We begin our day with a delightful breakfast and freshly brewed coffee at the newly renovated White Elephant Café, which boasts stunning views over the sparkling shores of Gnarabup Beach.
As we head inland from Prevelly, we are surrounded by jarrah forests on our way to Boodjidup Brook, where we encounter a daunting 300-step descent — a moment that certainly makes us grateful we’re not heading in the opposite direction!
We conclude our day by returning to the coastline, winding our way up to the cliffs overlooking Conto’s Beach. Here, we are rewarded with one of the most breathtaking cliff-top vistas of the trip, and we might even catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins.
Don’t miss the nearby Lake Cave, where guided tours offer a chance to explore this remarkable cave and see the iconic ‘suspended table’ formation. Additionally, Mammoth Cave is close by, providing self-guided tours for those who wish to explore at their own pace.
This is a penultimate day that takes you through one of the most beautiful highlights of the Cape to Cape trek as we walk amid the towering Karri trees of the Boranup Forest.
Karri trees can each 60m more in length and cover the hilly slopes and valleys of the forest. As we wander in silence (as nice change from walking long the exposed ridgelines of previous days)
This day is half amazing forests and half coastal walking including a long beach walk into the holiday hamlet of Hamelin Bay where you can enjoy the pristine waters.
Stand on the pristine shores of Hamelin Bay beach, where the gentle lapping of shallow waves nurtures a vibrant community of wild smooth stingrays, black stingrays, and eagle rays. Witness these graceful creatures gliding effortlessly through the crystal-clear turquoise waters.
As you depart from Hamelin Bay, this segment leading to Deepdene Campground is exclusively designated for trail hikers. You can enjoy a short day hike or include it as part of a longer journey toward Cape Leeuwin, which is our plan. One of the highlights along this route is the spectacular blowholes section. The limestone rock platform features circular shafts, sculpted over thousands of years by the relentless forces of wind and water.
Before long, you’ll arrive at the Foul Bay Lighthouse, followed by an easy stroll to Cosy Corner Road. From this point, we will wander along a fascinating limestone shelf dotted with blowholes.
As we round the Cape on a clear day, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, which marks the endpoint of the Cape to Cape trail.
We will gather for a picnic and unwind on Cosy Corner Beach for lunch before embarking on the final 16 km section of the Cape to Cape—a breathtaking way to conclude this remarkable hike.
Deepdene Beach is lengthy and wild, and the last stretch toward the lighthouse is truly enjoyable. Don’t forget to explore Jewel Cave, arguably the most stunning cave in the Margaret River Region, where you can book a fully guided tour to marvel at the enchanting stalactites and stalagmites.
Once you reach Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, make sure to stop by The Lightkeepers Cottage Interpretive Centre and café to celebrate the completion of this incredible journey.
From strangers on day one with our common connection being the urge to discover another beautiful part of our amazing country on foot we will finish as a close Wildlime team.
